Reading the Oregonian today, I delighted in reading that Portland's annual Blues Festival, held every July on the waterfront, is hosting a Woman's Tribute starring The Etta James and Susan Tedeschi.....I actually got tingles of excitement thinking of watching and tributing woman in this music genre. If you're not doing anything 4th of July weekend, Sunday July 6th is the day. Other bands include.... Steve (fly like an eagle) Miller, Taj Mahal and Pinetop Perkins, celebrating his 90th Birthday. Etta James is a very inspirational woman to me. I can swear she lived the blues after reading her autobiography. If you need a good history of rock and roll perspective from hers, a black artist ripped off by the record companies, you will love her book.

Speaking of great music, Nina Simone passed away today.

I'm going here, too.

Every summer I take a camping trip to the redwoods in Northern California. Seeing these giant trees always amaze me. Arcata is one of my favorite towns.......and reading this article in the Wa Poo affirms it.
