Back in May, I blogged about an article in Newsweek addressing fibromyalgia. The next week in the Letters section of Newsweek, was the following letter:

"As a family physician in a small community, I enjoyed your articlesabout new advances in pain management. But. I'd like to comment on your article on fibromyalgia. ("Fibromyalgia:Not All in Your Head"). The American College of Rheumatology approved diagnostic criteriafor fibromyalgia in 1990, but I believe that was a mistake. The condition is not associated with any objective pathology, and diagnoses based soley on symptoms are prone to error and abuse. What bothers us physicians is that by labeling fibromyalgia a disease, we encourgae people to claim disability. Most of us don't want our taxes supporting someone who is not truly disabled.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. There is diagnostic criteria for fibromyalgia. This guy is off the hook. Tracy, get rid of the glasses, and get a real man's name.
