Oldest Mountain Rescue Unit in The US

..is found here in Hood River, Oregon. The Crag Rats are an amazing mountain rescue team. Several mountain rescue teams are climbing Mount Hood today to rescue 3 lost experienced mountain climbers. Unfortunately, the weather was horrid last night and a bad storm is coming on Thursday. I can not imagine huddling in a snow cave while 100 mph winds lash out around you. Here is a web site of a member of the Crag Rats who is also a doctor. His pictures are interesting as they show the terrain of the area and you can see Eliot Glacier on a summer day. Imagine trekking through this terrain to rescue someone with harsh winds and white out conditions. At this point the outcome is not looking good and I sincerely hope none of the rescuers are killed today while attempting to reach the summit of Mount Hood.
