Cattle herds under quarantine
Cattle herds on some 100 farms in eastern Ontario and Quebec, including some locally, are under quarantine as part of a federal investigation sparked by the possible contamination of feed.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has linked the feed to the supplier, Agribrands Canada Inc., and one area farmer said the Ralston-Purina plant in Addison, and another in Drummondville, Quebec, are where it originated.
Neither Agribrands nor the CFIA could be reached for comment this morning.
According to a CFIA statement, the possible contamination is the result of a "very small amount" of meat and bone meal coming into contact with ingredients used in the production of the feed. LINK
