House passes a bill banning Genetic Discrimination

An important measure for folks who fear their genetic makeup can be used against them by health insurance carriers or employers passed the house last week. Fox News

The measure makes it illegal for a health plan or insurer to deny coverage or charge higher premiums to a healthy person based solely on a genetic predisposition to a disease. Similarly, an employer could not use genetic information in making hiring, firing or promotion decisions.
Great news for people like me who carry mutations in their genes for illness. By the way, everyone has about 6 mutations in their DNA, so this bill is important to everyone who doesn't want to be discriminated against.
