We, the undersigned, believe George W. Bush is demonstrably insane. Since the Nation continues to be at war, with soldiers fighting and dying each day in Iraq, we call upon him to once again invoke the 25th Amendment. If he fails to do so, we call upon Dick Cheney and the Cabinet to do so for the sake of the Nation. Sign the Mad George petition here.

Asscroft was in Stumptown this weekend. Here's some pics from Portland Independent Media Center.

Clinton was impeached for seven words he should not have uttered: "I never had sex with that woman." What price will Bush have to pay for his 16-word scam?

Alter-Abled News

If you haven't heard already, the most important medical marijuana vote in the history of Congress (well, aside from when CSA was enacted with marijuana as schedule I) is scheduled to take place this coming Wednesday or Thursday.

Reps. Hinchey (D-NY) and Rohrabacher (R-CA) are proposing an amendment on the CJS bill that would prohibit the DoJ from spending any funds to interfere with state medical marijuana laws.

While we do not expect to win this vote, it is not beyond the realm of possibility. Members who have said in the past that the DEA is just enforcing federal law must accept the fact that they will now be personally deciding whether raids on patients *should* be the law. We will be making sure that every Republican receives information on the subject, including supportive statements or articles from conservatives such as Lyn Nofziger, Richard Brookheiser, and William F. Buckley. If we can just get a small handful of Republicans to support the amendment, it could pass.

We are doing everything in our power on this vote -- including a full-page, color ad in Wednesday's Roll Call with DPA. If you have any ideas about how to pressure members to vote our way, let me know. Or just take action without letting me know. Time is so short, we almost just need to act, rather than strategize. What I have been trying to tell people is that this is the time to send personalized faxes, rather than the form letters that some organizations provide. Members need to understand that support is not just broad, but passionate.

I cannot understate the importance of this vote. Every member of the U.S. House of Representative must say whether the federal government should be arresting, prosecuting, and imprisoning patients and providers who are following state law. If you have ever needed a way to inspire members of your organization, friends, or family, this is it.

Primed for battle,
